Check out Chips.gg brand new slot game review for “Rock Bottom” from NoLimit City
Nolimit City is not shy about, well, anything. With recent slot game titles like Mental, Serial, and The Border, nothing they come out with could surprise us, but the Swedish company truly embodies its name of “NoLimit”.
The new game, Rock Bottom, follows the 5 stages of grief after the loss of a close loved one. The game opens to a black and white backdrop of an alleyway in a rough part of town. The only color to be found is on the slots layout. Royals from 10 to A make up the low-paying symbols and the premium symbols are comprised of different people that range from an angry drinking man to a clown. The scatter symbol is a non-descript bottle of alcohol that also acts as a wild and the Xsplit can land on reels 2–4 for added wins.

X-Features
No Limit continues its use of the “X-“ series slot features in the form of Xbet, Xsplit, and the new Xcap.
- Xbet — increases the odds of getting into the bonus by guaranteeing at least one scatter symbol at the cost of 1.5x your spin cost.
- Xsplit — featured in many of Nolimits games works the same here. The Xsplit will split all symbols in a line from right to left and leave behind a split wild.
- Xcap — this new “X-“ feature is a max win mechanic. Upon reaching a win that is more than 1969x, the player is offered 5 hooded individuals to “share their drink” with. When the player selects one of the people, a multiplier, ranging from 2x-10x is displayed and multiplies the total win.
Bonus rounds
Landing 3–4 scatters will award the Headshrinker bonus round. The player is awarded 5 spins +1 spin for each nudge as the scatter goes to the bottom row. Free spins are played on a 3x4 grid with only premium symbols, scatters and blanks. One premium symbol at a time is the expanding symbol and every 5th scatter upgrades which symbol expands. Symbols that are higher paying than the current expander increase their personal multiplier for each symbol that lands on the reels. Each scatter that lands awards +1 free spin and each level upgrade awards +2.
Landing 5 scatters in the base game awards the Insanity Spins bonus round. The super bonus plays much the same as the Headshrinker spins, with the main difference being that the current expanding symbol is also wild.
Players can buy their way into the bonus rounds for 75x and 500x their current bet respectively. Rock bottom also offers a lucky draw bonus buy with an 80% chance Headshrinker chance and 20% Insanity Spins chance for 183x the current bet.
Conclusion
NoLimit City is one of the industry's top providers. Known for its volatile slots and edgy slot themes, anyone who has been playing online slots for a very long time is sure to have come across one of their games. Rock Bottom feels like a throwback to titles like DeadWood and Punk Toilet but doesn’t have the same feel as most of the games NLC has come out with in the past. The characters that are supposed to symbolize the stages of grief don’t fully make sense, and the slot as a whole feels edgy for the sake of edginess instead of for actual substance. I’m positive that some players will enjoy the game. The soundtrack is, as always, top tier and the art premium, but overall, I think Rock Bottom just plain misses the mark.
Score: 6.5/10 — “Ok — Not great”
- The game doesn’t really add anything to NLC’s amazing portfolio
- Bonus needs to run for 40+ spins to pay well
- Overall aesthetic just misses
